Kingsley Police Chief Faces More Charges

Plymouth County, Iowa — A northwest Iowa police chief who was arrested last month now faces several more charges.

According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), on Monday, February 13, 2023, the Hinton Police Department requested the DCI to investigate a potential criminal matter that involved Kingsley Police Chief, James Dunn.

The DCI tells us that James Dunn was taken into custody at his residence in Kingsley on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, without incident by Agents of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

He was originally charged with three counts of Falsely Obtaining Criminal Intelligence Data, a class D felony, and misdemeanor counts of Non-felonious misconduct in office and stalking. He is now charged instead with seven counts of the unauthorized dissemination of intelligence history data and two counts of stalking with a dangerous weapon, all class D felonies; as well as several misdemeanor counts — seven counts of the unauthorized dissemination of criminal history data and three counts of nonfelonious misconduct in office.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Plymouth County Clerk of Court by the DCI, Dunn is accused of using a mobile data terminal belonging to the Kingsley Police Department to search for criminal data for personal reasons unrelated to his duties as a peace officer and allegedly using the data to harass three victims in his personal life.

If convicted, Dunn could face up to five years in prison for each class D felony count.
