Luverne Man Taken To Hospital After Accident Near Rock Rapids

Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Luverne, Minnesota man was taken to a hospital after a crash near Rock Rapids on Wednesday, October 14, 2020.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that they believe that about 1:45 p.m., a 2012 Chevrolet van owned by Spee-Dee delivery from Saint Cloud, Minnesota and driven by 57-year-old Jacquez Montel Johnson of Sioux City was southbound on Fir Avenue and allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign for Highway 9, about four miles west of Rock Rapids. Johnson’s vehicle collided with a 1992 Ford pickup owned and operated by 51-year-old Juan Ramon Gonzalez of Luverne, Minnesota.

The report says the collision sent both vehicles into the south ditch where they both came to rest on their wheels.

Gonzalez was transported to Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital in Rock Rapids. Johnson reported no injuries.

Both vehicles are considered a total loss.

Johnson was cited on a charge of failure to obey a stop sign and yield the right of way. Gonzalez was cited on charges of failure to provide proof of financial liability and operation of a motor vehicle with an expired license.

The sheriff’s office says the Lyon County Ambulance Squad, the Rock Rapids Fire Department, and Dusty’s Auto Body assisted them on the scene.
