One Dead In Plymouth County Crash

Akron, Iowa — One person is dead in the aftermath of a single-vehicle crash near Akron.

According to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, their communications center received a call advising them that there was a vehicle in a small creek bed near the caller’s residence, and that it appeared the driver was injured.

Plymouth County Deputies along with Iowa State Patrol Troopers, as well as fire and ambulance crews from Akron were dispatched to the scene, according to authorities. Once on scene, first responders found the driver of the vehicle was deceased.

Plymouth County authorities say a preliminary investigation indicates that a 1999 Chevrolet pickup was northbound on K18 South, when the driver lost control and started sliding sideways off the roadway, down a steep embankment and into a creek bed. Authorities say no other persons or vehicles were involved in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation, with a Technical Investigation being completed by the Iowa State Patrol.

Authorities identified the victim late Thursday afternoon as 32-year-old Mitchell L. Anderson of rural Hinton.
