O’Brien County, Iowa — A Sioux City man was arrested on numerous O’Brien County arrest warrants Wednesday, including warrants issued in connection with a vehicle pursuit last weekend that began in Sheldon and ended in a rural Hospers cornfield.
Late Friday night (October 2nd) Sheldon Police were led on a high speed chase that ended up with the car becoming disabled in a rural Hospers cornfield and it’s driver being arrested at gunpoint, after a passenger jumped from the moving vehicle and vanished into the standing corn. The fleeing driver, James Skoglund faces multiple charges in connection with the incident.
Further investigation into the incident led to charges being filed, and arrest warrants issued, for 20-year-old Walker Hollenbeck, whose address is listed as Sioux City. Hollenbeck is accused of holding a gun to Skoglund’s head during the chase and forcing him to flea from pursuing officers. Hollenbeck was arrested Wednesday on warrants charging him with Assault, False Imprisonment and Interference with Official Acts in connection with that incident.
In addition to the pursuit-related charges, Hollenbeck was also arrested Wednesday on warrants charging him with: Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Injury, in connection with an alleged incident in Archer late last month; and Violation of a No Contact Order, which allegedly took place on October 5th.
Deputies say that when they went to serve those warrants Wednesday, Hollenbeck allegedly saw them coming and quickly fled into a house, ignoring the deputy’s order to stop, which brought another charge of Interference with Official Acts. In addition, court records indicate that Hollenbeck was allegedly found to be in possession of a digital scale and two meth pipes in his coat pocket at the time of his arrest. Deputies say they discovered a “white crystalline residue” inside the pipes, and on the scale, that tested positive for methamphetamine. Officials say the pipes are being sent to the Iowa DCI Lab for chemical testing. As a result of the alleged discovery of meth residue, Hollenbeck now faces a felony charge of 3rd or Subsequent Offense – Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Hollenbeck was taken into custody for the warrants, as well as the narcotics and Interference with Official Acts charges, and transported to the O’Brien County Jail in Primghar.
