Plane Crash Near Larchwood Sends Two To Sioux Falls Hospital

Larchwood, Iowa — Two people are lucky to be alive after a Memorial Day (5/29) plane crash near Larchwood.

Names and towns of the victims have not been released, but the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 1:20 p.m., they were alerted to a single-engine airplane crash just to the south of the runway at the Larchwood airport, Zangger Vintage Airpark.

They tell us that when emergency crews arrived, they found that there were two individuals in the plane at the time of crash. One victim was transported by a Sanford AirMed helicopter to Sanford Sioux Falls. That victim had injuries that were termed “serious but not life-threating.” The Lyon County Ambulance took the other victim to Sanford Sioux Falls. That person’s injuries were termed, “minor” by emergency personnel.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that Larchwood EMS, The Larchwood Fire Department, the Lyon County Ambulance Squad, the Iowa State Patrol, and Sanford AirMed assisted with the response to the accident.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that the crash is still under investigation at this time and more information will be released at a later date.
