Sheldon Woman Jailed After Saturday Afternoon Incident

Sheldon, Iowa — A 47-year-old Sheldon woman was taken to jail on a felony charge following an incident in eastern Sheldon Saturday afternoon.

According to court records, Melissa Peterson is accused of domestic abuse assault for allegedly attacking another individual with a screwdriver, and striking him, causing a bloody lip.

According to the online O’Brien County Arrest Log, Peterson was taken to jail on a charge of Domestic Abuse Assault.

Court records indicate Peterson has had two previous Domestic Abuse Assault convictions, one in Woodbury County back in 2004, and one in O’Brien County in January of last year. Since this is her third offense, this Domestic Abuse Assault charge is elevated to a Class D Felony, according to the Iowa Code.
