Sioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux Center man has been arrested on a felony OWI charge in Sioux Center.
According to a criminal complaint filed with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office by the Sioux Center Police, 28-year-old Andy Villar-Vargas of Sioux Center is accused of drunk driving and a number of other offenses. He was arrested on December 10th, 2023.
In his statement, the officer alleges that Villar-Vargas was driving at a high rate of speed, crossed into the turning lane multiple times, weaved back and forth, and initially failed to stop for the officer. When he did stop, the officer says Villar-Vargas was slow to respond and showed many signs of intoxication. He says Villar-Vargas also admitted to drinking eight or nine beers. He says he also didn’t have an ignition interlock or high-risk insurance, which was required of him. The officer says Villar-Vargas also failed multiple sobriety tests.
Villar-Vargas was charged with operating while intoxicated, third or subsequent offense, a class D felony. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. He also faces several misdemeanor charges, including driving while denied or revoked, operation without interlock, driving while suspended, no driver’s license, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, improper use of lanes, and two counts of speeding.
He faces a preliminary hearing on December 19th.
Villar-Vargas was booked into jail in Orange City, and was then released the same day he was arrested after posting a $5000 bond.
