Sioux County Couple Arrested After Hit & Run Crash

Maurice, Iowa — A Maurice man and his girlfriend were both booked into the Sioux County Jail following a hit-and-run crash Thursday morning.

According to information from the Iowa State Patrol, about 9:35 Thursday morning, a 2013 Ford Explorer collided with a 2015 Jeep at the intersection of Highway 75 and 470th Street, at Maurice.

Troopers say the Explorer fled the scene of the crash, but was located a short time later in the driveway of a private residence, with a male subject identified as 19-year-old Ovilmer Perez-Ramirez, walking away from the vehicle.

According to authorities, officers developed probable cause to believe that Perez-Ramirez had been the driver of the Explorer at the time of the crash.

Troopers say the driver of the Jeep was transported to the Orange City Health System hospital with injuries that were believed not to be life-threatening.

According to court records in the case, Perez-Ramirez had called his live-in girlfriend, 26-year-old Irma Morales Lopez, who was the protected party of a Domestic Violence Protection Order against Perez-Ramirez, to come and pick him up following the hit-and-run collision. Authorities say she did come to the area with the intent of picking him up.

According to authorities, Perez-Ramirez was arrested on charges of: Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident; Violation of a No-Contact Protective Order; Failure to Obey a Stop Sign or Yield Right of Way; Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability; Failure to Have a Valid Drivers License; and a Window Tint Violation.

Morales Lopez was charged with Violation of a No-Contact Protective Order – Contempt.

Both subjects were taken to the Sioux County Jail.
