Vacant Hawarden House Destroyed In Wednesday Fire

Hawarden, Iowa — An unoccupied house went up in flames in Hawarden on Wednesday evening.

According to Hawarden firefighters, the call went out shortly after 5:00 p.m. to 1503 Avenue E, which is Highway 10 West, as it heads north through the city — just northwest of Central Park.

Firefighters tell us that when they got there, the house was fully involved with smoke and fire, making their strategy strictly defensive.

No injuries were reported and firefighters say the house was vacant.

The Ireton Fire Department and Hawarden EMS assisted on the scene.

Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour and a half and were called back Thursday afternoon to extinguish a couple of hot spots.
