Woman Flown To Sioux Falls After Being Struck By Vehicle In Rock Rapids

Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Rock Rapids woman was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital as the result of a car vs pedestrian accident in Rock Rapids Thursday afternoon.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, around 4:35 Thursday afternoon, their deputies responded to the report of a car vs pedestrian accident in the 300 Block of North Story Street in Rock Rapids. According to authorities, 45-year-old Michael Dyer of Rock Rapids was backing out of a driveway in a 2006 Kia Sportage, and reportedly failed to see 57-year-old Charlotte Palmer of Rock Rapids, who was walking. Deputies say Dyer’s vehicle struck Palmer.

Officials say Palmer was taken to Avera Rock Rapids by Lyon County Ambulance, and later airlifted to Avera Sioux Falls.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Lyon County Ambulance and Rock Rapids Fire Department.
