Sheldon, Iowa — We’ve been hearing it over and over again the past few days. People saying this MUST be the snowiest February on record. It’s not.
According to Sheldon’s Official National Weather Service Observer, Frank Luepke, the 25.5-inches of snow we’ve received thus far in February, 2019, pales in comparison to the snowiest February on record, which came in 1962, when 34.6-inches of snow fell on Sheldon.
The second snowiest February distinction belongs to February, 1936 when 31.0-inches of the white stuff was dumped on Sheldon.
So, with the 25.5-inches of snow we’ve received in February, 2019, this year is definitely NOT the snowiest February on record for Sheldon.
