Iowa City, Iowa — The Sutherland mother of a man charged with attempting to rob and kill a woman last year on the University of Iowa campus has been sentenced to five years in prison in a case in which she was accused of helping her son flee the country to avoid being prosecuted. But, the case has been appealed.
The jury deliberated for over four hours after two days of testimony in early August to find 45-year-old Lima Younes guilty of being an accessory to flight to avoid prosecution, a class D felony. The Johnson County judge sentenced Younes to five years in prison and a $1025 fine. She must also submit to DNA testing.
