Dangerous Wind Chills Continue

Bitterly cold wind chills will persist through midday Monday, so please continue to take precautions to protect yourself and others against the cold. With gusty northwest winds and near record cold temperatures, wind chill readings will remain in the 20s below zero for much of today. As temperatures drop again tonight, wind chills will likewise return to the 25 below to 35 below range into Monday morning.

After a couple of rounds of snow through the 1st half of the weekend, arctic cold returns for early next week, with temperatures 20 to 40 degrees below normal! Combined with some modest breezes, expect morning wind chills of -20 to -35 degrees Sunday and Monday.
February 2019 will go down as one of the coldest on record in this area, with the average temperature at both Sioux Falls and Sioux City landing among the top 10 coldest. Remember those mild days early in the month, when the groundhog “predicted” an early Spring? Well, it lasted for 2 days!
