A Storm Lake School Was on Lockdown This Morning Following Threat; Suspects Taken into Custody

Storm Lake, Iowa — Multiple juveniles have been taken into custody after a reported threat this (Wednesday) morning at the Storm Lake Elementary School, which led to several other schools being placed on lockdown.

According to Storm Lake Police, officers got word of the threat at 7:54 Wednesday morning during the morning drop-off period. School staff and officers quickly escorted students into the Elementary Building and into their classrooms. After the elementary school was put on lockdown, Storm Lake Police and Buena Vista County Sheriff’s deputies were positioned inside and outside the building to safeguard everyone on the premises. All other schools in Storm Lake were immediately notified, and they were also put on lockdown as a precautionary measure.

Three juveniles were taken into custody for questioning.

The Storm Lake Police Department says there is no active threat, and all lockdowns were lifted later this (Wed) morning. The Storm Lake Community School District says there was no credible threat to school safety, and all students and staff were safe.
