Abnormally Dry Conditions Expand in Latest Iowa Drought Monitor Map

Lincoln, Nebraska — More of Iowa is now considered to be abnormally dry.

According to the newest Iowa Drought Monitor map from the US Drought Monitor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, nearly 80 percent of the state is now abnormally dry, compared to nearly 72 percent last week.

The amount of the state in moderate drought decreased slightly to nearly 12.5 percent from over 13 percent last week.

There’s been no change in northwest Iowa. A majority of both Sioux and O’Brien counties and most of Plymouth County as well as smaller portions of Cherokee and Clay, are still dealing with moderate drought. Lyon and Osceola counties appear to be solidly in the “abnormally dry” category.

The map was released Thursday morning with data valid through 7 a.m. Tuesday.
