Northwest Iowa — Both major parties are stressing the importance of the mid-term elections coming up on November 6th. And therefore, they are also reminding people that it would be a good idea to vote early because life is uncertain.
While voting in-person at your county auditor’s office is available until the day before the election, November 5th, if you are planning to vote absentee by having your ballot sent to you in the mail, time is running out. The Iowa Secretary Of State’s office says that an official request form must be received in the county auditor’s office by 5 p.m. on the Saturday, ten days before the election. That would be this coming Saturday, October 27th.
If you don’t have your official form yet, auditors’ offices tell us that absentee ballots may be requested at your county auditor’s office from 8:00 to 4:30, Monday through Friday. You can obtain the form in-person at the Auditor’s office or online at the Iowa Secretary of State’s website. CLICK HERE for the form. But remember, the filled-out form has to be received back in the auditor’s office by Saturday.
Auditors’ offices stress that you may NOT fill out a request form, drop it off, and expect to take a ballot out of the Auditor’s office — for yourself or anyone else. The two options are voting right there and then, or having it mailed to your address. No ballots may leave the Auditor’s office except by mail.
The election will include several offices including Fourth District Congressman, Governor and Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, State Auditor, State Treasurer, State Secretary Of Agriculture, State Attorney General, some State Senators and Representatives, some county positions, and some other positions. It will also include a judge-retention section including the Iowa Court of Appeals and District Court Judges.
