Primghar, Iowa — Each year at Christmastime, Upper Des Moines Opportunity for O’Brien County releases a list of families in the county the could use some extra Christmas cheer, that they call Adopt-A-Family. This list, which is published at kiwaradio.com, gives folks the opportunity to make someone else’s Christmas a little bit brighter.
This year, UDMO O’Brien County Outreach Specialist Val Moermond says something very special as happened, as of 5 pm Wednesday (November 30th).
Moermond says the Adopt-A-Family Program was run a little differently this year.
She says Santa truly came early this year for the families on the O’Brien County Adopt-A-Family list this year.
Moermond expressed her appreciation to KIWA for helping to publicize the Adopt-A-Family program, and for making the list available on our website.
If you’re one of the individuals, or groups, that adopted O’Brien County Adopt-A-Family’s 84 families this year, they ask that you drop off the gifts at the Upper Des Moines Opportunity office in Primghar December 12th through 19th, between the hours of 8 am – 12 noon and 1 pm – 3 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. They have extended their hours on Thursday’s to be open until 6:00 p.m. to accommodate those who are working during normal business hours.
While O’Brien County’s Adopt-A-Family program came to an early close this year, things are not quite that rosy in Osceola County, where UDMO runs the “Sharing Christmas” program.
As of 9 am today (Thursday, December 1st), there are still a trio of families left to be adopted, from the original 39 families on that list. You can find the Osceola County Sharing Christmas list by clicking here. This link will take you to our sister site, osceolacountydailynews.com.
