Akron, Iowa — The trial for an Akron man who is accused in the death of his mother has been postponed again.
Jonathan Neunaber pled not guilty to the murder charge in August 2014 in Plymouth County District Court. A trial was to have begun on March 31st. However, court records now indicate that both the trial and the pretrial conference, which had been set for March 27th, have been “continued”. That’s legal language for “postponed.” Originally, the trial was to have been in December, 2014.
A judge allowed the trial to be postponed this time to give Neunaber’s attorney more time to prepare. New dates for the pretrial conference and trial have not been set. Court records say that will happen in a separate order of the court.
Plymouth County Attorney Darin Raymond has said that Neunaber previously admitted to causing the death of Esther Neunaber, but eventually pled not guilty. Both 80-year-old Esther, and her husband, 83-year-old Don Neunaber, were found dead at their rural Akron home on July 9th, 2014.
Jonathan Neunaber was not charged in his father’s death, which investigators say was a natural death.
