All-School Assembly Honors Retiring Superintendent

Sheldon, Iowa — An all-school assembly was held at Orab Field Friday morning to give students and staff the chance to bid a farewell to outgoing Sheldon Community Schools Superintendent Robin Spears.

Sheldon School Board President Kecia Hickman thanked Spears for his 21-years at the helm of the Sheldon Community Schools, noting that being a Superintendent isn’t an easy job. She credited Spears with managing the District’s finances in years when money was tight, and making the tough decisions about cutting staff and programs.

Each of the District’s three principals also spoke at the assembly, thanking Superintendent Spears for his leadership and guidance.

The Sheldon High School music students also participated in the assembly, with the Sheldon Jazz Choir performing the National Anthem, and the Pep Band performing the school song.

When Superintendent Spears tok the microphone, he said it was appropriate that the assembly was held on Friday, since Fridays are “High-Five Fridays.” He then had the students and teachers rise and give each other high-fives.

The assembly ended with the students and teachers of the Sheldon Community School District lining up around the high school track, and Spears taking a lap through their gauntlet, giving high-fives and words of affirmation to all the students and faculty.

Spears will be retiring as Sheldon Community Schools Superintendent at the end of June.
