Wever, Iowa — Alliant Energy proposes replacing some of its coal-generated energy with solar power, through a plan to place solar panels on 230 acres outside the city of Wever in southeast Iowa.
The project is part of a larger plan to provide 400 megawatts of solar power to customers in 83 of Iowa’s 99 counties. Lee County Board of Supervisors chairman Matt Pflug says he likes the local plan because it would -not- require using eminent domain.
“The landowners that you are working with are on board, so that’s a positive, too, as well,” Pflug says. “I definitely see this as a win-win for Lee County.”
The solar panels would generate 150 megawatts of power. Alliant has scheduled a public meeting with the county utility board at 6 pm on September 27th in Fort Madison.
Alliant provides power in other parts of the state as well, for example in our local broadcast area, Alliant provides power to George, Little Rock, all of the smaller communities in Osceola County except for Sibley, a small area on the eastern side of O’Brien County, and a very small area north and west of Matlock, plus some rural areas around these towns; and they are the natural gas provider in a number of Lyon and Osceola County towns.
