Northwest Iowa — Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon will hold commencement exercises for a record number of spring graduates this Friday. 294 students will graduate in two ceremonies beginning with the Health Programs commencement at 9:30 a.m. A commencement ceremony for all other programs will be held at 1:30 p.m. Larry Hoekstra will be honored with the Trustee Emeritus Distinction at the morning exercise and give the keynote speech at both ceremonies which are held at the Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center. Both ceremonies will be livestreamed on NCC’s YouTube site.
For the first time in school history, Dordt University in Sioux Center will hold two separate commencement ceremonies, also on Friday. The undergraduate commencement ceremony will take place at 9:30 a.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. The graduate commencement and hooding ceremony will be held on Friday at 2 p.m., also in the B.J. Haan Auditorium.
Northwestern College in Orange City will award degrees to a record 398 students during its annual commencement ceremony on Saturday morning. Master of Education degrees will be presented to 143 students, while four students will be the first to earn Master of Arts in counseling degrees. Another 222 students will receive Bachelor of Arts degrees, and 29, Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees. Two students will be presented with certificates of completion as graduates of the Northwestern NEXT program, a two-year campus life and learning experience for 18- to 22-year-olds with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Commencement will begin at 10 a.m. in the Rowenhorst Student Center. Cynthia Moser, a Sioux City resident and 1974 graduate of Northwestern College, will give the commencement address.
