Area Communities Receive Grants For Trees Through Alliant Energy

Northwest Iowa — Several northwest Iowa communities have been awarded grants to plant trees. The funding is through Alliant Energy’s “One Million Trees” initiative and “Trees Forever”.

In our primary coverage area, Sibley will receive $5000 for community tree planting at a new public housing complex. Student volunteers from local schools will help plant the trees. Ashton will get $2500 toward city-led tree planting in parks and ball diamonds with volunteers from throughout the community.

Other communities in the region awarded funding include Arnolds Park, which was awarded $5,000 to plant trees in city parks and other city-owned land. Alta will receive $4,900, and Laurens will receive $2,500.

Communities are eligible to apply for grants up to $5,000 to plant new trees. Since 1990, Trees Forever and Alliant Energy have awarded over $7.85 million and planted more than 1.1 million trees through the program.
