Area Goes From A White Christmas Into The Deep Freeze

Northwest Iowa — The weather here in northwest Iowa has gone from a white Christmas straight into the deep dreeze, as temperatures took a nose-dive Christmas night, plunging to 11-below zero by early this (Tuesday, December 26th) morning.

Brad Adams is a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, and he says we might as well get used to the bitterly cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills, since they’ll be with us for a while.

Adams says that snow is in the forecast, in addition to the bitter temperatures.

He says what we’re experiencing is fairly normal for this time of year.

The bitterly cold temperatures combined with brisk winds caused the National Weather Service to issue a Wind Chill Advisory that expired at noon Tuesday. About two hours later, they issued another Wind Chill Advisory to run from midnight Tuesday night until noon Wednesday.

If you’re headed out and about remember to bundle up, wear hats and gloves, and cover as much of your flesh as possible. The National Weather Service says frostbite can occur in as little as 30-minutes when skin is exposed to the elements.
