Area Schools Dealing With Flu

Northwest Iowa — This cold and flu season most schools around the area are reporting a large number of students and faculty battling a bug.

Sibley-Ocheyedan School Nurse Kim Morran says they are currently experiencing increasing numbers of flu like illness, especially influenza. Morran asks that you keep your children home if they are experiencing symptoms of fever, headache, cough, body aches, etc. She says they must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of tylenol/ibuprofen. Also, she says, it’s best to bring your child to the doctor within the first 48 hours of symptoms in order to be treated with the medication Tamiflu.

Sheldon Community Schools Superintendent Cory Myer tells KIWA that there were quite a few students and teachers sick last week. Myer says he knows of at least two students who were diagnosed with influenza in the district.
