As Many As 200 Trucks Expected In Sheldon Saturday For Roos Funeral

Sheldon, Iowa — A procession of up to 200 trucks is scheduled to be in Sheldon Saturday morning, to honor the memory of an Ashton teen who died in a crash in Kansas this past weekend.

Jake Warburton is a friend of Jake Roos, and is one of the organizers of the Truck procession which, he says is a way to honor the 18-year old in a manner that they believe would meet with his approval.

Warburton says everyone is invited to bring their truck to take part in the procession, in his words, “the more the better.”

He says the trucks will meet at Sudbeck Trucking, which is approximately three quarters of a mile west of Glen’s Sport Center, at 7:30 Saturday morning, and will roll-out at 9:30 enroute to the First Reformed Church, where Roos’ funeral will be held.

Another of the organizers, Corey McConnell, tells KIWA that signs will be posted to help with traffic control, and law enforcement officers, along with Sheldon EMA personnel, will be working to control traffic at the major intersections.

The trucks will leave Sudbeck Trucking at 9:30 am, proceeding east on 16th Street, across Business 60 all the way to Washington Avenue. The procession will turn north onto Washington, passing the church where the funeral will be held, then head east on Highway 18 to Country Club Road, where they will proceed south to East 6th Street. At that point the trucks will turn right oneto 6th Street, and will be parked along that street while the drivers attend the funeral at 1st Reformed Church in Sheldon.

Following the service, the funeral procession, with the trucks bringing up the rear, will go south on Washington Avenue from the church, turn left onto 16th Street, then right on Country Club Road, entering Highway 60 at the Country Club Road entrance, and proceed north to Ashton for the committal service.

Motorists are advised that there will be traffic delays in these areas Saturday morning, and unless your trip is of utmost importance,  you should avoid these areas of Sheldon.
