Ashton, Melvin Post Offices Temporarily Closed Due To Weather-Related Issues

Northwest Iowa — Due to recent flooding and other weather-related events, the service at two Osceola County Post Offices has been suspended. In the interim, Post Office Box delivery and retail services have been relocated to other post offices.

The two post offices in our area affected by the temporary closures are the Ashton and Melvin Post Offices. We talked with David Rupert, the Acting Manager for Western Area Corporate Communications for the Postal Service. He tells us the situation.

Rupert says that if you normally have your mail delivered, there will be no noticeable change, it’s just that mail will be coming from a different facility. If, however, you need to go to the post office to get your mail from a box, you will need to go to a different post office. Ashton residents will need to go to Sibley, and Melvin residents will need to go to the Sanborn post office. Rupert tells us all indications are that this will be a short-term situation. There are other post offices affected by weather-related closings in Iowa. Find the full list by clicking here.
