O’Brien County, Iowa — With the special restrictions in place to help curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus, county auditors around the state are making some hard decisions about how to conduct the primary elections, which are scheduled for June 2nd.
O’Brien County Auditor Barb Rohwer is urging O’Brien County voters to vote by mail this time around.
(As above) “We would like to see as many folks as possible to use the vote by mail method this time for the June second primary election.”
She says you should have received a mailer from the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office containing an Absentee Ballot Request Form.
(As above) “We’re hoping that they will take advantage of that by filling out that request form and mailing it back into our office. Once that we’ve received that request for an absentee ballot, we will mail that ballot out to the voter.”
Rohwer tells us what we should do if we have NOT received an Absentee Ballot Request Form from the secretary of state’s office.
(As above) “Everybody that’s an active voter should have received this request form. But if they don’t, they can give us a call or they can go on to the secretary of state or the county website, and either get the request form off there. If they’re not a registered voter, or not currently active they can also get those materials from us or from the secretary of state.”
She says you can also get a sample ballot from the O’Brien County website for the primary election. Rohwer reminds voters that they’ll have to mark on the Absentee Ballot Request Form whether they want a Republican or Democratic ballot, since Iowa primaries are closed elections. Absentee Request Forms must be returned to the auditor’s office by 5:00 pm, May 22nd.
