Sheldon, Iowa — The construction of a new building to house a Sheldon church is expected to begin next spring.
According to Bethel Reformed Church Pastor Dave Van Kley, it was announced to the Bethel congregation this past Sunday, that the church is looking to break ground on a new building in early April. The structure will be constructed on property the church owns on the south side of 7th Street. Prior to Bethel purchasing that property, it was home to the old Sheldon Middle School.
The new building will replace the old Bethel Reformed Church building, which was heavily damaged by fire in September, 2016. That building was razed earlier this year to make way for a residential housing development.
The only thing that remains on the old lot is the church’s Youth House which, as of Thursday morning, is loaded onto a truck and ready to be moved to its new location. Pastor Van Kley says the building has been sold to a family at Hull, with the first part of the structure already having been moved to Hull, with the remaining section set to be moved soon to its new location, by Berghorst and Son of Hull.
The removal of the final structure on the old church site will clear the way for construction to begin on a multi unit residential housing development on the site.
