Blood Donor Month: Donors Receive Subway Gift Card

Rock Rapids, Iowa — This is blood donor month, and your next chance to donate blood is this Wednesday at the Central Lyon High School.

Community Blood Bank Executive Director Ken Ver Steeg tells us the blood drive is at the school, located at 1010 South Greene Street in Rock Rapids. The blood drive is for everyone in the community, not just students and staff. Blood donations will be taken between 7:30 and 11:00 a.m. and between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. Donors wishing to give blood can log onto cbblifeblood.org, select “events” and January 10th or call 605-331-3222.

Ver Steeg tells us about the drive.

He says with the new year, come some changes in policy for the blood bank — one of them much anticipated.

VerSteeg says they are always looking for all blood types, but they are critically short at this time of blood types O+ and O-. He says that means a less than 36-hour supply.

If this Wednesday doesn’t work for you, VerSteeg says they’ll also be in Sibley at the Osceola Community Hospital on Thursday, January 18th. If you’d like to donate at that blood drive, you are asked to call the Osceola Regional Health Center to make an appointment at 712-754-5358.

He also tells us that to celebrate Blood Donor Month, each person who donates at either of these drives will receive a $10 Subway gift card.
