Both State Auditor Candidates Headed For Northwest Iowa

Northwest Iowa — Both major party candidates for State Auditor are coming to northwest Iowa in the near future. One this week, and one next week.

Rob Sand, the Democratic candidate for state auditor, will be in Sheldon this Wednesday. The event is termed an “O’Brien County Meet & Greet.” It’ll be at Truly Scrumptious at 316 Ninth Street in Sheldon this Wednesday, (August 22) from 2 to 3 p.m. Sand’s effort to uncover fraud in the state lottery was the subject of a story in the New York Times in May.

Meanwhile, the Republican candidate for state auditor, incumbent Republican Mary Mosiman will be in Rock Rapids for an event called a “Lunch and Learn.” It’ll be at the Rock Rapids Public Library at Highway 9 and South Greene Street in Rock Rapids from noon to 1 p.m. ONE WEEK from this Wednesday — Wednesday, August 29th. Mossiman says she serves as the “Taxpayer’s Watchdog.”

The state auditor’s office says the office is responsible for the audits of state agencies, counties, cities, school districts, and other governmental subdivisions. The office is also required to provide guidelines to CPA firms performing governmental audits and plays a major role in fraud investigations around the state.
