Hull, Iowa — A Boyden woman was taken to a hospital after an accident on Monday.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 4:35 PM, 41-year-old Clemente Gomez of Sibley was driving a 1998 Dodge pickup eastbound on Highway 18. They report that 71-year-old Audrey Hoftyzer of Boyden was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Impala eastbound on Highway 18 behind Gomez. The report says 64-year-old Thomas Messenbrink of Avoca, MN was driving a 2000 Peterbilt semi‐tractor pulling a side dump trailer eastbound on Highway 18 behind Hoftyzer.
According to the report, Gomez stopped for oncoming vehicles before attempting to turn left onto Chestnut Street. Hoftyzer stopped behind Gomez and Messenbrink struck Hoftyzer. The impact caused the Hoftyzer’s Chevrolet to strike the Gomez Dodge pickup.
The Hull Ambulance crew took Hoftyzer to the Sioux Center Health Hospital.
The Gomez Dodge pickup sustained about $50 in damage, as did the Messenbrink Peterbilt. The Hoftyzer Chevrolet sustained an estimated $3,500 in damage.
Messenbrink was cited on a charge of following too closely. Gomez was arrested on an outstanding arrest warrant from the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office and was cited on charges of operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license and no proof of insurance.
The Sheriff’s Office says the Hull Ambulance crew and Hull Fire Department assisted them.
