Jurors weighed evidence of repeated abuse against his wife and daughter, with incidents stretching from 2020 through his arrest in August of this year. The convictions include six counts each of indecent contact with a child, lascivious acts with a child, and incest. Del Angel was also found guilty of three counts each of domestic abuse assault causing injury and second degree sexual abuse, along with two counts of first degree harassment and child endangerment. Additional convictions include child endangerment causing bodily injury, going armed with intent, and continuous sexual abuse of a child. Four of those charges are Class B felonies, each carrying a potential 25-year prison sentence. The remaining convictions range from Class C and D felonies to aggravated misdemeanors, with penalties of 10, five, or two years. If the judge orders the sentences to be served consecutively, Del Angel could face more than 100 years in prison. The court will decide whether the sentences run back-to-back, concurrently, or in some combination.
The case began in late August when Del Angel called the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office about a dispute with a neighbor. Investigators say he brandished a knife during that confrontation, which led to further interviews and allegations of sexual abuse. Prosecutors presented testimony and physical evidence during the trial, alleging Del Angel repeatedly assaulted his wife and committed continuous sexual abuse of a minor child until his arrest.
Court records show Del Angel filed a motion for a new trial last Tuesday, Dec. 23rd.
He remains in custody at the Buena Vista County Jail without bond.
Sentencing is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 6, at 1:30 p.m. in Buena Vista County District Court.
