Calumet, Iowa — A Calumet man who was charged with Attempted Murder and a trio of domestic abuse charges, has entered a not guilty plea to the charges.
The alleged incident that led to the charges occurred Sunday February 13th at a Calumet residence.
According to O’Brien County authorities, the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a domestic violence assault that had just occurred at 206 South Morse Avenue in Calumet. The victim reported that during the domestic altercation, her husband had choked her and pointed a shotgun at her before using the butt of the shotgun to strike her in the side of the head. The victim reported that when she broke free and ran out of the house, her husband fired the shotgun at her.
Following a brief standoff, the alleged victim’s husband, 41-year-old Paul Long, exited the home and was taken into custody, according to authorities.
Late last week, Long entered a written plea of not guilty to the charges. He is scheduled to go on trial July 12th in O’Brien County District Court at Primghar.
