Camp For Candy At Mill Creek Park October 4th & 5th

Paullina, Iowa — Camping for free if you provide candy for trick-or-treaters — it’s a common theme at county parks in northwest Iowa. It’s being done at Oak Grove County Park near Hawarden, Lake Pahoja near Inwood, and Mill Creek County Park near Paullina.

O’Brien County Naturalist Charlene Elyea tells us about the arrangements at Mill Creek Park.

Elyea says that unlike in some other parks, you don’t have to preregister — but the camping spots are first come-first served. She says if you come before the event, you’ll have to pay for those nights, but the nights of the 4th and 5th are free if you agree to provide and hand out candy. You can find out more by calling the Prairie Heritage Center at 712-295-7200.

The events in the other counties are Octoberfest at Lake Pahoja near Inwood on Saturday, October 12th, which includes many activities, and Saturday, October 12th is also the annual Trick or Treat Hike at Oak Grove Park near Hawarden. But again, the Mill Creek Park event near Paullina is the week before, October 4th and 5th.
