Northwest Iowa — Thanksgiving is coming up, and many of us are getting ready to roast the bird, make the sides, and sit down to a feast with family and friends. However, sometimes people have nowhere to go for Thanksgiving or have no one to share it with. There are meals planned in the area for just such a situation. But this year — there are fewer such options.
Every year the Sheldon First Reformed Church puts on a community Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day, giving people a place to come and fellowship and thank the Lord for his blessings. However, things are going to go a little differently this year.
Staff at the Sheldon First Reformed Church tell us that due to the pandemic, they are switching things up a little this year and will go with a drive-up-and-take-home style feast. If you would like a meal or more than one, you need to call 712-324-2130 before Friday, November 20th.
The Community Thanksgiving Meal at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids has been changed to DELIVERY ONLY. The meal will be available on Thanksgiving Day, November 26th, at noon. You can call to order your meal(s) by Friday, November 20th. Call the Rock Rapids Chamber at 712-472-3456 or the First Reformed Church at 712-472-3729.
Two of the other communities that have hosted similar meals in the past have decided not to offer them this year. The Sibley First Presbyterian Church will not be offering their meal this year, and the CommUNITY Thanksgiving Meal at Living Water Community Church in Orange City will not happen this year either. Organizers say they hope to reorganize it next year.
