Cherokee County Sheriff Officials Warn Of Scammer Claiming To Be One Of Their Sergeants

Cherokee, Iowa — There are always scammers out there trying to separate people from their hard-earned money. Scammers pretend to be all kinds of different people — usually they impersonate trustworthy businesspeople. But there are all kinds of scams and scammers.

In fact, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office tells us they have received a report that a scammer is posing as an employee their office. The scammer is referring to himself as “Sergeant Moore” and wanting you to stay on the phone with him.

Cherokee County Sheriff officials remind you that you can always verify that a call claiming they are with a law enforcement agency is actually a call from that agency by calling the agency in question — in this case, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office — where their number is 712-225-6728.

Cherokee County Sheriff officials ask people to please use caution in regard to this situation, and let others know too.
