Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council will meet in regular session on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025. The meeting is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers at the Sheldon Community Services Center, downtown.
On their consent agenda are the minutes from two previous meetings, the claims list, financial reports, a change order and pay estimate for the west water tower recoat, a renewal of an alcohol license for Backyard Brew, a beer permit for Crossroads Travel Plaza, resolutions approving annual transfers, and a resolution approving a pay application on the Sheldon Upper Story Housing Project.
In new business, the council is set to have the second of three readings of the 2025 legislative and local code-required updates. They are also set for the first reading of some additional 2025 legislative updates. The council will consider the approval of the adoption of the Northwest Iowa Safety Group Chapter 28E addendum. They will also consider a resolution that would authorize advancement of costs of an urban renewal project for 420 North 2nd Avenue — the old auto dealership building on Old 60. City Manager Sam Kooiker says there are no city utilities active in the building, and he and city staff are under the impression that it is being used as a residence. The main focus of the project, however, says Kooiker, is the junk, junk vehicles, grass, and weeds around the property. He says they’re asking the council to approve funding for various aspects of enforcement, necessary court orders, grass/weed maintenance, clean-up of the junk and junked vehicles outside, etc., and demolition of the structure if necessary.
The meeting will be at 4:30 p.m. this Wednesday in the council chambers on the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center at 416 9th Street in Sheldon.
