Sheldon, Iowa — Most cities in the area have ordinances that ban overnight parking on their streets during the winter storm season, making it easier for street crews to remove any snow that falls.
In Sheldon, the overnight parking ban goes into effect Friday. Sheldon City Manager Sam Kooiker explains.
Kooiker says the fine for violation of the overnight parking ban is $10. In addition to the seasonal overnight parking ban, there are streets in the downtown area where overnight parking is banned year-round.
Kooiker says there are other, lesser-known, parking restrictions in effect in Sheldon, as well.
He says “paved” refers to concrete or asphalt surfaces, but in some cases rock or gravel surfaces are acceptable.
Kooiker says violations of this particular parking ordinance are not handled by the Police Department.
He talks more about the reasons for the ordinance prohibiting parking on your lawn.
So remember, no parking on Sheldon streets from 2:00 am to 6:00 am November 1st until April 1st, and don’t park on your lawn any time. The City of Sheldon thanks you for your cooperation.
