City To Move Ahead With Acquisition Of Former Rec Bowl Property

Sheldon, Iowa — After no comments were heard during the public hearing on the former Rec Bowl location during Wednesday’s meeting, the Sheldon City Council approved moving ahead toward acquisition of the property.

The council also took final action on transfer of the deed on the property located at 1023 Garfield Avenue. That property has been cleaned up by Kerwin and Kathy Sterler, and a newer home was moved in. The Sterlers plan to place the home on the market soon.

In other business the Council ratified an offer to Trevor Cast for the position of Recreation Coordinator, approved the updated Airport FAA Capital Improvement Plan, and heard an audit report from a representative of Winther Stave and Company. It was called a ‘good’ audit, and the representative stated that in areas where they made suggestions for change or improvement the auditors had a good response from the City.

The Council also addressed a request from the Clay Rural Water System in South Dakota to buy some of the Lewis and Clark water allotted to Sheldon. The agreement which was approved by the council, includes wording which ensures that Sheldon will have enough water during the contract period, which is five years with a three-year renewal.  The proceeds will go into the Lewis & Clark fund to help pay for future improvements.
