Combine Destroyed In Fire Near Allendorf

Allendorf, Iowa — A combine was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 near Allendorf.

According to Sibley Fire Chief Ken Huls, about 6:00 p.m., the Sibley Fire Department was called to the report of a combine fire near 1623 Rose Avenue, on the east side of Allendorf, in the field.

The chief says the fire department saw the combine fully engulfed as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire, and the combine had to be partially dismantled as the fire was inside. He says there was also minor damage to the cut bean stubble under the combine, but no crop burned.

Huls says no injuries were reported.

He says the cause of the fire is undetermined but may be related to the hydraulic system.

Chief Huls reports that the older combine was totaled in the blaze, and estimates the damage at $100,000.

He says they used 1000 gallons of water, plus foam concentrate to fight the fire, and crews were on scene until about 7:50 p.m.
