Comet/Meteor Shower Encounter Planned At PHC

Sutherland, Iowa — As meteor showers go, the Geminid Meteor Shower is a very regular one. In fact, it happens every year at almost the very same time — when Earth passes through some rocky debris left by an asteroid called 3200 Phaethon as it passes by on its elliptical orbit that gets closer to the sun than Mercury and goes out well past Mars. Your chance to experience that meteor shower and maybe even see a comet is coming up later this month at the Prairie Heritage Center.

O’Brien County Naturalist Charlene Elyea tells us about it.

If you have any questions, feel free to call the Prairie Heritage Center at 712-295-7200.
