Spencer, Iowa — A new regional children’s center in Spencer that aims to help troubled kids has received an honor from the Iowa Rural Development Authority.
Autumn’s Center, a branch of Season’s Center in Spencer is named after Autumn Elgersma of Orange City, who died in 2013 after she succumbed to injuries she received at the hands of her daycare provider.
Autumn’s Center has just been formally recognized as a “Community Development Best Practice” site by the Iowa Rural Development Authority. Kim Scorza, the President and CEO of Seasons Center was in Washington, DC when we caught up with her, but she took some time to tell us about the honor.
She says it was a big job for them to do that.
Scorza says that they were fortunate to have the support of many donors in making the project a reality. She says, “Quite honestly, this award goes to all those who put their faith and trust in us to help bring this healing center to northwest Iowa.”
