Construction Project Starts Up Again; May Slow Trips To Sioux Falls

Larchwood, Iowa — The second half of a road construction project that started last year is now underway, which, depending on your route, could affect your travel to Sioux Falls.

Work has begun again on Iowa Highway 9 in Larchwood. Iowa Department of Transportation Highway Planner Dakin Schultz says that if the weather remains good, the contractor anticipates finishing the resurfacing work in Larchwood by the end of the day on Tuesday, May 5th.

He says they will move the operation to the rural segment following the work in Larchwood. Schultz gives us some details.

(as said:) “It’s HMA hot mix asphalt resurfacing with milling and then there will be patching as well and that is on Iowa 9 from the west corporate limits of Larchwood to Fairlamb Street in Rock Rapids. That project is estimated at about 5.4 million dollars.”

He tells us what to expect.

(as said:) “We would be looking at a pilot car operation for this, so you know, anticipate the slow down through the construction. We’ve got several facets of the project that would require pilot cars.”

Schultz says the pilot car corridors will probably be about two miles or so. He says he would anticipate the rest of the work would take about two months, give or take, depending on the weather and other factors.
