Sheldon, Iowa — If you saw flames and a Sheldon Fire truck in the vicinity of the KIWA tower site in western Sheldon Monday night, fear not, it was a planned burn.
During last week’s Sheldon City Council meeting, a controlled burn at the KIWA tower site was approved by the City Council, and Sheldon firefighters lit the blaze Monday evening.
KIWA General Manager Justin Hellinga explains.
Monday night’s controlled burn went off without a hitch, under the watchful eye of firefighters, and was a complete success, according to Hellinga.
KIWA’s tower and transmitter site is located west of Western Avenue, near the National Guard Armory, in far western Sheldon.
