Corn and Soybean Planting Getting Started

Northwest Iowa — Corn and soybean planting is getting underway in parts of the state.

According to the latest USDA Crop Progress Report, says there were 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork last week statewide and in northwest Iowa. Most fieldwork consisted of tillage, seeding oats, and applying anhydrous and dry fertilizer. 63 percent of oats in northwest Iowa have been planted, with ten percent emerged. There were also reports of corn and soybeans being planted in some areas.

57 percent of northwest Iowa topsoil has adequate moisture, with 44 percent short or very short, and one percent surplus.

60 percent of northwest Iowa subsoil has adequate moisture, with 39 percent short or very short, and one percent surplus.
