Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council approved the City’s health insurance coverage for the 22-23 fiscal year when they met Wednesday.
Larry Smit, of Perspective Insurance, went over the renewal figures with the Council during the meeting. The City’s premium increase for the next fiscal year is an estimated 9.67-percent, compared to some of the 20 to 40-percent increases seen this year in other places. After Smit’s update, the Council approved the renewal for the next fiscal year.
The Council also passed the ordinance amending sewer rates to a 2nd reading, which will happen at their next meeting in two weeks. The amended sewer rates would be an approximate 4-percent increase.
In other action, the Council approved the hiring of Diane Van Drie as an Administrative Assistant, as well as the hiring of Cindy Gries as an Administrative Assistant/Payroll Clerk in the City Office. The hirings were to fill positions vacated by the recent resignations of two former employees. The Council also approved the application of Jeremiah Postma to become a volunteer SCAT team member, as well as approving various beer and liquor licenses for Sheldon businesses.
The Sheldon City Council also approved the request by Greg De Jong to hold a Classic Motorcycle Parade late next month.
And, following a public hearing in which no public comments were received, the Council passed resolutions granting easement and temporary access with Lewis & Clark Regional Water System for a meter building and associated connecting pipe.
