Council Hears From Haulers About Recycling

Sheldon, Iowa — Much of Wednesday’s Sheldon City Council was taken up with conversation about the suggestion from the City’s garbage haulers that the City temporarily remove the large recycling container from the Community Services Center parking lot in order to allow residents an opportunity to become accustomed to using the residential curbside recyclables pickup.

The curbside recycling doesn’t come with an additional charge, it is one of the services provided that is billed to residents on their City utility bill, regardless of their use of residential curbside pickup. City Manager Sam Kooiker says the haulers answered questions from the Council, after which the Council reached a consensus.

In other business, Kooiker says tells us about the report on the Street Improvement Projects that Public Works Director Todd Uhl gave the Council.

Kooiker reported to the Council that the bonds for construction of the Crossroads Pavilion event center will be paid off this year.

The Council went into closed session at the end of Wednesday’s meeting to discuss the possible purchase of property. No action was taken after that closed session.
