Council OKs Hiring Of 8th Sheldon Police Officer

Sheldon, Iowa — During the Wednesday meeting of the Sheldon City Council, the body approved the hiring of an additional full-time officer for the Sheldon Police Department.

City Manager Sam Kooiker says the addition of Zane Roberts will bring the Sheldon force to 8 full-time officers.

Kooiker says Sheldon’s application for the COPS Grant received extraordinary support from several area law enforcement administrators, elected officials and others

He says the addition of Roberts takes the Sheldon PD’s complement of full-time officers to a level not seen for nearly 20 years.

Roberts is already an Iowa Law Enforcement Academy certified peace officer, so Kooiker says the City of Sheldon will not have to incur the costs of academy training.

Roberts has law enforcement experience from having previously served as an O’Brien County Park Ranger, as well as with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. He’s expected to begin his role with the Sheldon Police Department on December 28th.
