Sheldon, Iowa – The Sheldon City Council met Wednesday, in their first regular session since the departure of former City Manager Sam Kooiker.

The Council unanimously approved the “Consent Agenda”, that portion of the agenda contains items that are voted on collectively, rather than individually. One of those items was the approval of a Pay Application and Change Order for the Western Avenue Project. Public Works Director and Co-Interim City Manager Todd Uhl explained to the Council that the Change Order was for a $54,950 deduction in the amount paid as a late penalty against the contractor.

In Old Business, the Council unanimously approved the 2nd Readings of both an ordinance amendment regarding sewer, and another ordinance amendment regarding water. They also voted to advance each ordinance amendment to a 3rd Reading at their next regular meeting.

In other action, the Council approved a TIF incentive for Beck Engineering on two parcels of land in the Sheldon Crossing area. The agreement calls for Beck receiving a 5-year TIF Rebate from the City: 100% incentive for each of the first four years, with a 40% incentive in the fifth year. In return, Beck Engineering has agreed to a minimum tax assessment for a finished building, of $800,000.

The Sheldon City Council also approved compensation for the City’s Interim City Managers. Public Works Director Todd Uhl and City Clerk Angie Beckman will each be compensated an additional $2,600 per month during their tenure as Co-Interim City Manager. The Council also recognized Beckman for her 30-years of service in the Sheldon City Office.

The Council went into closed session to discuss Compensation Findings, but took no action when returning to open session.
