Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets this afternoon, they will be asked to approve the hiring of Haley Gurtler as the new Assistant General Manager of the Crossroads Pavilion event center. Gurtler was selected after what was called a “rigorous process” involving 24 applicants for the position. If approved, Gurtler’s target start date would be July 6th.
In other business, the council will act on updating EMS (ambulance) rates, updating the by-laws for the fire department, they’ll address zoning amendments for the old Sunset Motel area, and hear the bid status on an old corn crib located on South 5th Avenue. At last report, no bids to demolish the structure had been received.
The council will also continue their discussion on the City and SCDC sponsorship of a fireworks display on September 6th. Each of the two entities will be asked to contribute a minimum of one thousand dollars. Private fundraising is being sought to cover the remainder of the cost. The idea for the September fireworks surfaced when the Village Northwest Unlimited Independence Day event had to be canceled. The September fireworks would NOT be held if either RiseFest or Celebration Days is canceled.
The council will also be asked to act on a date for returning City Hall hours and usage to a near normal state. A target date of June 25th is being considered.
This afternoon’s Sheldon City Council meeting begins at 4:30 p.m.
